About David Maxwell Fine

During my high-school years (1980s) I learned about nature and landscape photography, photographing sunsets near the small town of Grand Rapids, Ohio, and on rare vacations to the country, such as Algonquin national park, Ontario, Canada (1985), and wild horses in the Idaho mountains (1987)- with an old Nikkormat 50mm sold to me by a veterinarian that my mom once worked for (I sold it to a camera shop in Boston, Massachusetts around 1997). I briefly tried developing my own black and white photos on my own at home with an old enlarger.

I am currently shooting with a Canon Powershot S5 IS, 8 megapixel camera. Before this (2005 California-New Zealand shots) I was shooting with a 1.8 megapixel point-and-shoot.

In 1994 earned my B.A. in French from Ohio State University. Lived in Lyon, France during my junior year, August 1991 to June 1992.

After graduating from Ohio State, I moved to Boston, Massachusetts. There, I worked for Dollars & Sense the left-leaning economics magazine in Somerville, Massachusetts in 1995, was assistant editor at The American Prospect magazine in 1996 and worked as manager of the Electronic Policy Network ( http://epn.org )there in 1998 which became Moving Ideas. Worked as a website designer and producer through 2002 at Quinlan Publishing and then Energyguide.com (now a different company).

In October 2001 I ran and completed the Chicago Marathon in 4 hours 19 minutes.

In September of 2002 I attended a Masters program in International Affairs at Columbia University SIPA in New York for 6 weeks, then withdrew due to financial difficulty.

In 2005, as you can see from some of the photos, I biked California's coastal Highway 1 from San Francisco to Newport Beach (just past Los Angeles, 450 miles) and then travelled to New Zealand for 3 months.

I just finished 8 months of living on-the-road: Spent the Winter and Spring in Florida and Georgia, a little time in New Orleans, Louisiana via a stop in Mobile and other cities in Alabama, and then I travelled out West to Colorado and the Rocky Mountains for 2 months. I would prefer to be living near the mountains, the sea, or both... And wouldn't mind living in a different country. But for now, I am in the State of Ohio...

I am interested in making a little money with photography, but for now it is a relatively casual occupation.

I have about 1000 new photos from travels in California and elsewhere in the USA from 2010-2011, but the secret satellite technologies 'mafia' has been interfering with my creating a slideshow of them. A few are on my flickr site.
